One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to was Saturday night at Track 29 in Chattanooga. It’s a small venue seating 1,500. White said he wanted to play small places to test out the new material for his upcoming solo album, Blunderbuss. All female band with White. At first, I thought it was shtick. No shtick. Every one of these women rocked. Hard. Super impressive. Drummer, Stand Up Base, Steel Guitar, Violin, Tambourine / Vocals and Keyboards.
White was way more animated and involved than he was in other shows. Seemed genuinely to be having fun playing to the crowd. He played a fantastic mix of White Stripes stuff thrown in with six new songs from the solo project.
The encore was an absolutely blistering rendition of Ball and Biscuit that was a top 5 song ever live I’ve seen. Insane. Took the crowd to an incredible high, let them back down and then finished with the perfect Leadbelly cover of “Goodnight, Irene”. Perfect ending to an incredible set.
